What Sculptra Actually Is
Sculptra is an injectable containing poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible synthetic material that has been used in absorbable sutures and medical implants for decades. It is classified as a collagen stimulator rather than a traditional filler.
When injected into the deeper layers of the skin, the particles trigger a controlled inflammatory response. Fibroblasts respond by producing new collagen in the treated area. The Sculptra particles themselves are gradually absorbed and eliminated, while the collagen framework remains.
How It Differs From Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane add volume immediately because the gel itself occupies space. You see the result the same day, and the product can be dissolved with an enzyme if needed.
Sculptra works gradually. Any volume visible immediately after treatment is from the liquid the product is mixed in, and that subsides within days.
